Dressing well on a budget (to look a million bucks) is something I have never been very good at, despite the fact that I’ve had years to practice it. However I’ve started getting the hang of it in the past few years – thanks to some handy tips from the Internet, my female friends, as well as first-hand experience!
True that the inner you is important than what’s outside, but it feels good to be seen as someone confident and able to carry one’s self well.

Stick to A Style
One of the most important things when it comes to dressing on a budget is knowing what kind of wardrobe you’d like to end up with. Everyone has different clothing needs and likes. This should be kept in mind, and will help you decide what to spend your hard-earned money on.
Don’t feel pressured to splurge on items that are claimed to be “classics”, like the proverbial Little Black Dress – especially if you’re like me and would rather have a whole rainbow of mid-range dresses as opposed to one expensive one. Think about what you want, not just what everyone else would like to see.
Buy it!
The next statement further emphasizes what I said above – if you cannot bear to part with something, buy it. Buy it if it screams “you” all the way to the rooftops. Buy it even if it goes with nothing you currently own. Buy it even if the price is more than what you would be happy to pay for – because if there’s anything I’ve learned, it is that buying something you really like is better than buying something on sale. In the long term, this will actually save you money. To look a million bucks, instead of having a wardrobe with many cheap, impulse buys, have one with carefully selected clothes that you’ll be happy to wear for longer.
Keep a List
For those who struggle with buying too many clothes – as opposed to those who struggle to find good buys – here is a piece of advice for you. A good way of keeping yourself in check is to make a list of items you’d like to add to your wardrobe, and do your best to stick to this list when you’re at the shops. This will help you to only make buys that work with what you already have.
It’s just like grocery shopping, see – if you have a shopping list that consists only of broccoli, cream of mushroom soup, chicken breasts and french bread, you’re going to find it more difficult to justify buying a six-pack box of muffins and a chocolate bar as well.
Look a Million Bucks: Carry yourself well
Finally, it really comes down to the whole package. It’s not just what you buy and wear, it’s how you present yourself too. Neatly groomed hair and brows, tasteful makeup and a positive demeanor do wonders for one’s appearance – it will make you look a million bucks no matter what you’re wearing!
