Wigs and hair pieces have been around since the time of the ancient Egyptians and the Romans. The purpose and appeal of wearing these head accessories have changed from time to time throughout the centuries. Royalties and noblemen wore it as a status symbol around the 16th and 17th century. Today, barristers, judges and civic officials of most Commonwealth nations still wear special wigs that symbolize their office on certain occasions. Full wigs went out of fashion around the 19th to early 20th century but it seems to have made a strong come back in the recent years.
